West Indies top player skipped IPL mega auction
The Indian Premier League (IPL) major auction in 2022 is generating a lot of excitement.

On the 12th and 13th of February, a two-day mega auction will take place in Bengaluru, with a total of 590 cricketers expected to go under the hammer.

While certain big names like RCB's Virat Kohli and MI's Rohit Sharma were retained by their respective clubs, there will be other top Indian and abroad talents in high demand during the two days, including R Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Pat Cummins, and Kagiso Rabada, to mention a few.

With the addition of two new teams - the Lucknow Super Giants and the Ahmedabad franchise - the 2019 edition of the cash-rich league promises to be even greater. The Lucknow and Ahmedabad squads will be led by KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, respectively.

However, the auction will be devoid of a number of well-known celebrities. While some players, such as Ben Stokes and Joe Root, have withdrawn in order to return fresh for England's home season, others have mentioned the challenging bio-bubble lifestyle as a cause.
T20 icon Chris Gayle appeared to not be in the IPL list.

The Universe Boss Chris Gayle, one of the greatest stars in the league and a T20 icon, may have played his farewell game in the cash-rich competition last season.

Last season, the West Indian power batter only played 10 games for Punjab Kings, scoring 193 runs at an average of 21. In September, he dropped out of the rest of the competition due to bubble fatigue.

Gayle appeared to have played his final match for West Indies when they met Australia in their final group match of the T20 World Cup 2021 in November last year, but later emphasised that he is only 'semi-retired.'

Gayle has played in the T10 League for Team Abu Dhabi and, more recently, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Barishal, but he has yet to make a notable performance, save for a 45-run innings against Khulna Tigers. He has decided to skip this year's IPL.
