Sandhu surprises himself with history-making in BBL 11
Gurinder Sandhu has created history to become the first man in Australian domestic cricket to take three hat-tricks after a brilliant performance that gave the Sydney Thunder back-to-back wins over the Perth Scorchers. They top the KFC BBL 11 standings.

Sandhu's second hat-trick of the season came against South Australia on November 28, when he became the first bowler in Australian domestic cricket history to record two hat-tricks by taking three wickets in three balls.

The right-arm, from northwest Sydney, surpassed Mitchell Starc and Doug Bollinger, who each have two Sheffield Shield hat-tricks, and AJ Tye, who has two Big Bash hat-tricks.

Four Australians have three and more first-class hat-tricks, but most came in tour matches outside Australia.

In 1879, Fred Spofforth became the first bowler to bowl a hat-trick in a Test match. He had four hat-tricks in his career, three of which came in England during tour matches.

Thomas James Matthews (four first-class hat-tricks) is the only bowler to do twice in the same Test match, he took a hat-trick in each innings against South Africa in 1912, and the other two came in the Sheffield Shield and a tour match in the United States in 1912.

Hugh Trumble, the legendary off-spinner, has two Test hat-tricks and a third in a tour match, while South Australian George Giffen has three tour hat-tricks.
