The Lions have crowned CTA T20 Challenge champions on Sunday, with Kagiso Rabada and Reeza Hendricks playing pivotal roles in their four-wicket win over the Dolphins in a low-scoring final in Durban.

After winning the toss, South Africa's fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took three for 12 in an outstanding show of ability and pace as the hosts were limited to a mediocre 107 for seven wickets.

The competition's leading run-scorer, opener Hendricks, then hit 39 off 40 balls to lead a tense chase that ended with the visitors crossing the line with an over to spare.

The Lions were defending the title they won the last time the competition was played in the 2018-19 season had an outstanding all-around game. Because of Covid-19, there was no event last year, but this year's edition was held in a bio-secure environment (BSE) in this coastal region.

After achieving first and second in the round-robin phase of play, the two sides, who shared the Momentum One-Day Cup title a few weeks ago in Potchefstroom, were the best teams of the week.

The Dolphins were favourites going into the game, but their batting output at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium was catastrophic.
