Mumbai Indians (MI) captured the IPL title for a historic fifth time on November 10, 2020. The
Rohit Sharma-led side had an all-around performance, and no other team was even close to them.
Of the 16 matches played by MI, including the final, just three were lost, with two of them
going down to the Super Over. For the second Super Over, the first instance in T20 cricket ever,
the match against Kings XI Punjab went instead.
MI find themselves preparing to defend the title and make it three in a row in just over two
months after winning the trophy. It is time for the auctions ahead of the 2021 season, and the
list of retained and released players has been released by the franchise. First of all, they'll
be pleased that it's a mini-auction, not a mega-auction, which offers them an opportunity for
another year to hang on to their core stars, probably the best of all teams.
With MI, there has never been a question about who will be retained. The franchise will have its
11 best players in the park even without the sale, which is a testament to how they have
developed their roster over the last few years.
