RCB’s Faf Du Plessis explained why they needed Harshal Patel
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered their second defeat of the IPL 2022 season, unable to chase down defending champions Chennai Super Kings' big 217-run mark (April 12). RCB needed a huge innings from Virat Kohli, but the batsman was removed for 1 off 3 balls by youngster Mukesh Choudhary.

According to a viral video on social media, former CSK captain MS Dhoni had a key part in Kohli's removal. When Kohli was out with the bat, Dhoni used his game intelligence to establish the fielding. The former India captain meticulously plotted out the field set-up for Kohli, which was flawlessly executed by bowler Mukesh, resulting in an easy dismissal for Kohli.

When Kohli was dismissed in the powerplay, RCB suffered a major setback, coming on the heels of the loss of their captain, Faf du Plessis.

In their loss to Chennai Super Kings, RCB captain Du Plessis confessed that his squad missed the services of pacer Harshal Patel. Patel was notably absent from RCB's starting XI against Chennai at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy because the pacer was forced to leave the IPL bio-bubble to return home following the sudden death of his sister.

Patel had exited the bubble on Sunday after the match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, according to RCB sources. It's unclear how long Patel will be unavailable to the RCB.

After the defeat, Du Plessis commented that the first 7-8 overs were really decent, but then Dube brought in the spinners from 8-14. Whatever they tried throughout that time period didn't work. One of the first four must be completed in order to track down such a large score. That was not available to them. The captain explained that on a pitch with some grip, CSK made good use of their spinners. The depth was evident in the manner they returned.

The skipper also mentioned that they recognise Patel's worth and what he has to offer. He has the capacity to bring the game to a halt. They didn’t have that on Tuesday night, and their tone was similar to bowling. Their onslaught lacked the variation they required. Hopefully, they will be able to see him again soon.
