Gujarat Titans’ Rahmanullah Gurbaz makes his IPL debut this season
In the forthcoming IPL 2022 season, Gujarat Titans (GT) picked Afghanistan's young keeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz as a replacement for Jason Roy. According to a source, it has now been revealed that one of their shortlisted options was Australia's Ben McDermott.

Gurbaz, 20, was selected for this coming season, at his basic figure of INR 50 lakhs. The upcoming young talent will be playing in his debut IPL season. At Titans, he will join Afghanistan's Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad. While Rashid was acquired before the auction, Noor, also was purchased at the auction. Noor had just recently competed in the Under-19 World Cup.

After Jason Roy pulled out of the IPL 2022, claiming family reasons and bio-bubble fatigue, the Gujarat Titans, who will be making their Indian Premier League debut alongside the Lucknow Super Giants, had to find a substitute. According to reports, Titans purchased him at the auction for INR 2 crores, which was his base price.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been named as a backup for Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade, who is expected to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill. It was also stated that Gurbaz was on the Titans' shortlist of candidates for Roy's replacement.

The shortlist also included Australian hitter Ben McDermott, who recently scored his first T20I half-century in a home series against Sri Lanka after finishing as the BBL's top run-scorer in 2021-22. Nevertheless, McDermott did not end up filling that position because of a scheduling conflict.

Furthermore, Gurbaz has amassed a substantial amount of expertise in a variety of leagues. The 20-year-old star has played in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Multan Sultans and Islamabad United. He also featured in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Khulna Tigers, and the Lanka Premier League for Kandy Tuskers (LPL).

According to reports, Titans management chose another keeper-batter because of the existing Wriddhiman Saha-Boria Majumdar feud. It's understandable that they wanted to ensure that backups were available in case something went wrong or didn’t go according to plan.
